Community
WOBOT aspires to be a leader of the community of West Michigan. As a team, WOBOT is making great strides towards our goal of setting an example for the importance of science, technology, and engineering. FIRST was created to inspire the future of science and technology in our world, and that is exactly what WOBOT aims to achieve. Within the West Michigan community, there are several different focuses for our mission. Community service is a crucial part of our mission. We are involved in Relay for Life every year, helping to raise money for cancer awareness. Our team helps our sponsors with their company events. WOBOT also takes part in canned food drives, and helps out at the Community Action House with a holiday craft. We do the community day fundraiser with Younkers each year, among other community service projects.
Our district has an excellent level of awareness for our team and what we do. WOBOT visits both the elementary and middle schools regularly for an opportunity to show what technology can do. In the high school, WOBOT takes part in school wide events such as football games, assemblies, and Pink Out. Team 141 helps with Lego League teams in our area. WOBOT has regular updates on WOBN (West Ottawa Broadcast News), and is spotlighted in the school newspaper. Our team has been featured on Fox News, Holland Sentinel, and the Grand Rapids Press. Our team has a weekly newsletter, “The Wobot Wire” that is sent out to our sponsors, mentors, team, and families.
FIRST provides the building blocks for our team’s mission. With that strong foundation, WOBOT moves forward beyond the competitions, beyond the robot, beyond the walls of our school. The WOBOT aims to show the world the presence of science and technology in our lives, and that’s exactly what we are going to do: West Michigan, and beyond. |
