Robot Design

2011, we’ve opted to use a Crab Drive again, which allows us to spin all four wheels 360 degrees, providing for maximum maneuverability. After learning from our mistakes, we redesigned this year’s drive train in order to provide more stability and structural integrity. The traction motor for the crab modules are inside the wheel, and is reduced twice before running to the floor. The tower this year is similar to a standard forklift, with two carriages carrying our ball manipulator. The ball manipulator consists of two powered wheels  run on a Banebot motor, with a flat plate supporting the bottom of the robot.

Machining

Our parts are currently being manufactured and assembled within our team. JR Automation is graciously helping machine parts that we design. Our robot is looking to be underweight.

Programming

Our programming team is currently under way with writing new code for our 2011 robot. Adding on to our 2010 driver interface, our robot will use all of the 2010 robot features, including Crab Drive, Twirl and Tank Drive, while also incorporating some new drive systems. While the 2011 robot is being assembled, work continues on our new test platform, and 2010 crab drive.

Electronics

This year, we’re designing a brand new control board, one with all the switches, buttons and joysticks installed inside. Our robot also includes 10 Jaguar Motor Controllers and one digital sidecar.
